Clear-Winged Hummingbird Sphinx Moth. Unlike most moths, this one was out during the day. Also, like a hummingbird, it never landed while feeding.
On the subject of hummingbirds… Every year hummingbirds visit my backyard. I don’t put out feeders for them, but they seem to like the lamb’s ear and particularly the bee balm. The females seem more audacious than the males. One summer almost every morning for a while a female visited me while I drank my tea on the back patio. She would hover about 10 or so feet away, stare at me for 5 to 10 seconds, and then fly away. This one looks like she’s giving me the stink eye.
Great Blue Heron. These birds aren’t usually this close to shore, or, if they are, they don’t stay long enough to pose for a picture. My lens isn’t long enough to reach them most of the time, so this was a treat.
