As part of my decision to plant more natives and hardy perennials — otherwise my plants die of neglect — I planted some echinacea (aka coneflower) a few years ago. Of course, there are other benefits to adding native plants, including that the indigenous fauna like them. Echinacea (at least the purpurea variety) in particular also offers health benefits as a tea and a tincture.
This is the purpurea variety.I don’t usually convert pictures to black and white — it’s a different type of photography of which I don’t have a good grasp — but I liked the effect here. This is a different variety, but I don’t remember its name.Sometimes it amazes me what the camera picks up compared to what the eye sees. There’s very little post processing in this photo (or any of mine), but I didn’t see anything this amazing when I looked at the flower. And I couldn’t resist the black and white here either.
